অবশেষে বন্ধ করে দেয়া হলো আলিমুজ্জামান বেইলি সেতু শনিবার সারাদিন লোহার পাত লাগিয়ে সেতুর দুইপাশ আটকে দেয় কর্তৃপক্ষ।
বর্তমানে সেতু সংস্কার কাজ চলছে।
জানা গেছে শহরের ব্যস্ততম সেতুতে প্রতিদিন হাজার হাজার লোক বিভিন্ন প্রয়োজনে যাতায়াত করে থাকে। তাছাড়া এ সেতুটি বেশ কয়েকটি এলাকার মেলবন্ধন হিসেবে কাজ করে।
সম্প্রতি ফরিদপুর শহরে করোনা বেড়ে যাওয়ার কারণে এবং অতিরিক্ত লোক সেতুতে চলাফেরার কারণে কতৃপক্ষ সেতুটি বন্ধ করে দেয়।
এদিকে এই সেতু বন্ধের ফলে সাধারণ পথচারীদের মারাত্মক সমস্যা সৃষ্টি হচ্ছে। এছাড়া ব্রিজের উপরে যে সমস্ত হকার ও ভিক্ষুকরা দিনাতিপাত করছেন তাদেরও মারাত্মক সমস্যার মধ্যে পড়তে হচ্ছে।
খোঁজ নিয়ে জানা গেছে শুধুমাত্র ব্রিজের দুই পাশের রেলিং মেরামত করা হবে’ এছাড়া সেতুর মূল পাটাতন এ কোন কাজ করা হবে না।
