মঙ্গলবার (৩১ আগস্ট) বেলা সাড়ে ১১টায় জেলা ও দায়রা জজ ফজলে খোদা মো. নাজির এ রায় প্রদান করেন।দণ্ডপ্রাপ্ত কুলসুম খাতুন রত্না সিরাজগঞ্জ সদর উপজেলার শিয়ালকোল ইউনিয়নের ধুকুরিয়া গ্রামের চান মিয়ার স্ত্রী।
সিরাজগঞ্জে জজ আদালতের পাবলিক প্রসিকিউটর (পিপি) অ্যাডভোকেট আব্দুর রহমান বলেন, ২০১৮ সালের ১৭ জুন দুপুরে খাওয়া দাওয়া শেষ ধুকুরিয়া গ্রামের চান মিয়া তার স্ত্রী ও শিশু সন্তান রিফাত হোসেনকে নিয়ে ঘুমিয়ে পড়েন। কিছুক্ষণ পর রিফাত ঘুম থেকে ওঠে বাড়ির বাইরে খেলতে যান। এ সময় রিফাতের সৎ মা কুলসুম খাতুন বাড়ির পাশের পাটক্ষেতে নিয়ে রিফাতকে শ্বাসরোধ করে হত্যা করে। এ ঘটনায় রিফাতের বাবা চান মিয়া বাদী হয়ে কুলসুমকে আসামি করে সিরাজগঞ্জ মডেল থানায় একটি হত্যা মামলা করেন।তিনি আরও বলেন, মামলা চলাকালে ৯ জনের সাক্ষ্যগ্রহণ করে আদালত। অভিযোগ প্রমাণিত হওয়ায় মঙ্গলবার কুলসুমকে মৃত্যুদণ্ড প্রদান করেন আদালত।
