সিরাজগঞ্জে চৌহালী উপজেলার দক্ষিণাঞ্চলে আবারও যমুনায় তীব্র ভাঙন শুরু হয়েছে। গত এক সপ্তাহে বাঘুটিয়া ইউনিয়নের দুটি গ্রামের অন্তত ৪২টি বাড়ি, বহু গাছপালা ও বিস্তীর্ণ ফসলি জমি নদীতে বিলীন হয়ে গেছে। যমুনায় পানি বৃদ্ধি অব্যাহত থাকায় উপজেলার সাতটি ইউনিয়নের চরাঞ্চলের জমি তলিয়ে গেছে। এছাড়া অধিকাংশ এলাকায় বন্যার পানি প্রবেশ করেছে। এতে দক্ষিণাঞ্চলের মানুষের মধ্যে চরম আতঙ্ক ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে, দ্রুত স্থায়ী তীর সংরক্ষণ বাঁধ নির্মাণের দাবি জানিয়েছেন এলাকাবাসী।
জানা যায়, বর্ষা মৌসুমের শুরু থেকেই চৌহালী উপজেলার যমুনা নদীতে পানি বৃদ্ধি অব্যাহত রয়েছে। তবে সপ্তাহখানে ধরে পানি বৃদ্ধির সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তীব্র স্রোতে দক্ষিণাঞ্চলের বাঘুটিয়া ইউনিয়নের বিনানই ও চরসলিমাবাদ গ্রামে শুরু হয়েছে ভাঙনের তাণ্ডবলীলা। মুহূর্তের মধ্যেই বিলীন হয়ে যাচ্ছে বসতভিটা ও গাছপালা। আজ সকালে ভাঙনে ক্ষতিগ্রস্তরা এ প্রতিবেদককে জানান, যমুনার ভাঙনে এলাকায় প্রায় অর্ধশত মানুষের ঘরবাড়ি ভেঙে গেছে। বাংলাদেশ নদী বাঁচাও আন্দোলনের সদস্য ভাঙন এলাকা পরিদর্শন করে এক প্রতিক্রিয়ায় জানান, চৌহালীর মানচিত্র ধরে রাখতে স্থায়ী বাঁধের বিকল্প নেই, জরুরী প্রকল্প বাস্তবায়নের জোর দাবিও জানান।
এদিকে চৌহালী উপজেলার ভাঙন রোধে দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত টাঙ্গাইল পানি উন্নয়ন বোর্ডের নির্বাহী প্রকৌশলী সিরাজুল ইসলাম বলেন, চৌহালীর বিনানই ও চরসলিমাবাদ গ্রামে ভাঙনের বিষয়ে জেনেছি, দক্ষিণাঞ্চল রক্ষায় স্থায়ী তীর সংরক্ষণে একটি প্রকল্প জমা দেওয়া হয়েছে, প্রকল্পটি অনুমোদন হলে কাজ শুরু করা হবে।
