বাগেরহাট প্রতিনিধিঃ ঘূর্ণিঝড় ইয়াসের প্রভাবে বৃদ্ধি পাওয়া পানিতে ডুবে জিনিয়া আক্তার (৪) নামে একটি শিশুর মৃত্যু হয়েছে।
বুধবার (২৬ মে) দুপুরে মোরেলগঞ্জ উপজেলার চালিতাবুনিয়া গ্রামে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। শিশু জিনিয়া চালিতাবুনিয়া গ্রামের নির্মাণ শ্রমিক কালাম গাজীর মেয়ে।
খাউলিয়া ইউনয়নের ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যান মো. আলমগীর হোসেন জানান, জোয়ারের পানি বাড়ির ওঠানে চলে আসায় গরু নিরাপদ স্থানে রাখার জন্য যান কালাম গাজী ও তার স্ত্রী লিজা বেগম। এসময় একা একা ঘর থেকে উঠানে নামতেই পানিতে ডুবে যায় জিনিয়া। এর কিছুক্ষণ পর জিনিয়াকে উঠানের পানির মধ্যে থেকে উদ্ধার করে হাসপাতালে নিয়ে গেলে কর্তব্যরত চিকিৎসক মৃত ঘোষণা করেন।
মোরেলগঞ্জ উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য ও পরিবার পরিকল্পনা কর্মকর্তা ডা. কামাল হোসেন মুফতি সাংবাদিকদের জানান, পানিতে ডুবে যাওয়া একটি শিশুকে মৃত অবস্থায় হাসপাতালে নিয়ে আসছিলেন। হাসপাতালে পৌঁছানোর আগেই শিশুটি মারা যায়।
