সুনামগঞ্জের জগন্নাথপুর পৌরসভার পক্ষ থেকে আমেরিকা প্রবাসী বিশিষ্ট সমাজসেবক ও দানশীল ব্যক্তি শিল্পপতি আবদুল গফুরকে সম্মাননা স্বারক প্রদান করা হয়েছে। পৌর মেয়র আক্তার হোসেনের হাত থেকে স্বারকটি গ্রহণ করেন প্রবাসীর পক্ষে তরুণ সমাজকর্মী শাহ মোঃ বিলাল উদ্দিন। এ উপলক্ষে পৌর ভবনে আলোচনাসভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। এতে বক্তব্য রাখেন, পৌর মেয়র আক্তার হোসেন, সাবেক ভারপ্রাপ্ত মেয়র শফিকুল হক, প্যানেল মেয়র সাফরোজ ইসলাম মুন্না, তরুণ সমাজকর্মী শাহ মোঃ বিলাল উদ্দিন, আতিকুর রহমান মিঠু প্রমূখ।
এ সময় ভারপ্রাপ্ত পৌর সচিব সতীশ গোস্বামী, পৌর কাউন্সিলর সুহেল আহমদ, কামাল হোসেন, জিতু মিয়া, শাহিন আহমদ, নারী কাউন্সিলর বাহারজান বিবি, ব্যবসায়ী আমিনুল ইসলাম, সমাজকর্মী ফারুক আহমদ সহ বিভিন্ন শ্রেণি-পেশার নেতৃবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন। সভায় বক্তারা বলেন, যুগেযুগে আল্লাহ পাকের পক্ষ থেকে কিছু মানুষ অসহায় মানুষের কল্যাণে কাজ করেন। এ রকমই একজন প্রবাসী আবদুল গফুর। তিনি পৌর এলাকার অসহায় মানুষদের নগদ অর্থ দিয়ে সহযোগিতা করায় জগন্নাথপুর পৌরসভার পক্ষ থেকে তাঁকে কৃতজ্ঞতা ও অভিনন্দন জানানো হয়েছে। সমাজকর্মী শাহ মোঃ বিলাল উদ্দিন জানান, গত ঈদুল ফিতর উপলক্ষে তিনি নগদ ৯ লাখ সহ মোট ২০ লাখ টাকা দান করেছেন। আগামী ঈদুল আযহা উপলক্ষেও তিনি আরো দান
