মহেশখালীর কুতুবজোম ইউনিয়নে নৌকার সমর্থকের গুলিতে স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থীর এক সমর্থক নিহত হয়েছেন।
নিহতের নাম আবুল কালাম। তিনি স্থানীয় পশ্চিমপাড়ার ছোটমিয়ার ছেলে। এ সময় গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে আহত হয়েছে আরও অন্তত ১০ জন।
সোমবার সকাল সাড়ে ৯টার দিকে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। এ ঘটনায় দুটি কেন্দ্রের ভোটগ্রহণ সাময়িক বন্ধ রাখা হয়।
সূত্র জানায়, মহেশখালীর কুতুবজোম ইউনিয়নের ভোটগ্রহণ সকাল ৮টা শুরু হয়। সকাল সাড়ে ৯টার দিকে নৌকার প্রার্থী শেখ কামালের পক্ষে কিছু যুবক ভোটকেন্দ্রে এবং রাস্তায় প্রভাব বিস্তারের চেষ্টা চালান।
এ সময় স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী মোশারফ হোসেন খোকন (চশমা) সমর্থিত লোকজন বাধা দিলে দুপক্ষের মধ্যে সংর্ঘষ হয়। এ সময় নৌকার সমর্থিত লোকজনের গুলিতে চশমা সমর্থিত আবুল কালাম ঘটনাস্থলে গুলিবিদ্ধ হন।
পরে তাকে উদ্ধার করে মহেশখালী উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্স নিয়ে যাওয়া হলে দায়িত্বরত চিকিৎসক মৃত ঘোষণা করেন।
এ ঘটনায় আহত আরও গুলিবিদ্ধ ১০ জন মহেশখালী উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্স ও কক্সবাজার সদর হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসাধীন রয়েছেন বলে জানা গেছে।
ঘটনার পর পরই পুলিশের উর্ধতন কর্মকর্তা, বিজিবি ও জেলা প্রশাসনের নির্বাহী ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট ঘটনাস্থল পরিদর্শন করেছেন।
পাশাপাশি কুতুবজোম সরকারি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয় ও জামিয়া সুন্নাহ দারুল উলুম দাখিল মাদ্রাসার ভোটগ্রহণ বন্ধ রয়েছে।
কুতুবজোম ইউনিয়নের রিটার্নিং কর্মকর্তা গোলাম মাসুদ কুতবী জানান, সকাল সাড়ে ৯টার দিকে নৌকা ও চশমার সমর্থকদের মধ্যে গোলাগুলির ঘটনায় একজন নিহত হয়েছেন। এ সময় আহত হয়েছে আরও কয়েকজন।
তিনি বলেন, এ ঘটনায় কয়েক ঘণ্টার জন্য ৪ ও ৫ নং কেন্দ্রে ভোটগ্রহণ বন্ধ রাখা হয়। বর্তমানে বিজিবি ও অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ মোতায়ন রয়েছে। পাশাপাশি ভোটগ্রহণও শুরু হয়েছে।
মহেশখালী থানার ওসি আবদুল হাই জানান, বর্তমানে কুতুবজোম ইউনিয়নের আইনশৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতি স্বাভাবিক রয়েছে। ভোটগ্রহণও চলছে। পাশাপাশি ঘটনাস্থলে কঠোর নিরাপত্তা বাড়ানো হয়েছে।
