প্রথমপর্বে দুটি গ্রুপ রয়েছে। ‘এ’ গ্রুপে শ্রীলঙ্কা, আয়ারল্যান্ড, নামিবিয়া আর নেদারল্যান্ডস। বাংলাদেশ পড়েছে ‘বি’ গ্রুপে। সেখানে তাদের প্রতিপক্ষ ওমান, পাপুয়া নিউগিনি আর স্কটল্যান্ড।
টুর্নামেন্টের উদ্বোধনী দিন অর্থাৎ ১৭ অক্টোবর মাসকটে প্রথম ম্যাচে মুখোমুখি হবে ওমান আর পাপুয়া নিউগিনি। একইদিনে একই ভেন্যুতে পরের ম্যাচে বাংলাদেশ খেলবে স্কটল্যান্ডের বিপক্ষে।
গ্রুপ ‘বি’ থেকে বাংলাদেশ চ্যাম্পিয়ন হলে সুপার টুয়েলভে খেলবে গ্রুপ-২ এ। এই গ্রুপে আছে ভারত, পাকিস্তান, নিউজিল্যান্ড ও আফগানিস্তান। রানারআপ হলে সুপার টুয়েলভে টাইগারদের প্রতিপক্ষ হবে গ্রুপ-১ এ থাকা ইংল্যান্ড, অস্ট্রেলিয়া, দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা ও ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজ। সুপার টুয়েলভের সবগুলো ম্যাচ হবে সংযুক্ত আরব আমিরাতে। ২৩ অক্টোবর থেকে শুরু হবে সুপার টুয়েলভের লড়াই।
সুপার টুয়েলভে ম্যাচ হবে সর্বমোট ৩০টি। দুবাই, আবুধাবি ও শারজায়; এই তিন ভেন্যুতে হবে এই রাউন্ডের ম্যাচগুলো। এই রাউন্ড শেষে বাকি থাকবে দুটি সেমিফাইনাল ও ফাইনাল ম্যাচটি।
সুপার টুয়েলভের ম্যাচ আবুধাবির শেখ আবু জায়েদ ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়ামে এই পর্বে প্রথম ম্যাচটি হবে অস্ট্রেলিয়া ও দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার মধ্যে। একইদিনে বিকালে দুবাই আন্তর্জাতিক স্টেডিয়ামে বর্তমান চ্যাম্পিয়ন ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজ মোকাবেলা করবে ইংল্যান্ডকে।
দ্বিতীয়পর্বে দুই চিরপ্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী ভারত-পাকিস্তানের বহুল প্রতীক্ষিত লড়াইটি মাঠে গড়াবে ২৪ অক্টোবর দুবাইয়ে। ৮ নভেম্বর প্রথমপর্বের গ্রুপ ১ রানারআপ দলের খেলতে হবে ভারতের বিপক্ষে।
