জানা যায়, বুধবার (১৪ জুন) সালে ভোররাত ৩টার দিকে সেলিম উদ্দিনের পাশের বাড়ির একটি নির্মাণাধীন দ্বিতল ভবনের বাইরের অংশে ছাদের সাথে তাঁর লাশ ঝুলতে দেখতে পান স্থানীয়রা। এ ঘটনায় পুলিশকে খবর দিলে সকাল ১০টায় থানা ও কুশিয়ারা তদন্ত কেন্দ্রের পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে উপস্থিত হয়ে লাশ উদ্ধার করে সুরতহাল রিপোর্ট তৈরি করেন।

তিনি বুধবারীবাজার ইউনিয়নের বণগাওয়ে শশুড়বাড়ি গিয়ে রাত্রীযাপন করেছেন বলে জানান তার পরিবার। ঘটনার আগের দিন তার মেয়ের অসুস্থার খবর পেয়ে নিজ বাড়িতে আসেন। ওই দিন ভোরে বাড়ি থেকে কে কারা ডেকে নিয়ে যায়। পরে তার স্থানীয়রা ঝুলন্ত লাশ দেখতে পান একটি দ্বীতল নির্মাণাধীন ভবনে।
ঘটনার খবর পেয়ে সাথে অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ সুপার (গোলাপগঞ্জ সার্কেল) রাশেদুল হক চৌধুরী, গোলাপগঞ্জ মডেল থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মোহাম্মদ হারুনুর রশিদ চৌধুরী ও ওসি (তদন্ত) সুশংকর পাল ঘটনাস্থল পরিদর্শন করে লাশ ময়না তদন্তের জন্য এমএজি ওসমানী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে প্রেরণ করেন। ইতোমধ্যে পুলিশ হত্যার রহস্য উদঘাটনের জন্য মাঠে নেমেছে জানা গেছে।
