বুধবার সকালে সিটি করপোরেশনের কোনাবাড়ী থানাধীন আমবাগ ব্রিজসংলগ্ন এলাকায় এ দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে।
নিহত পোশাক শ্রমিকের নাম কোহিনুর আক্তার (৩২)। তিনি ময়মনসিংহের ফুলবাড়িয়া থানার রানাকান্দা এলাকার নাজমুল ইসলামের স্ত্রী।
গাজীপুর মেট্রোপলিটন কোনাবাড়ী থানার ওসি আবু সিদ্দিক জানান, আমবাগ এলাকায় বাসা ভাড়া থেকে স্থানীয় একটি পোশাক কারখানায় চাকরি করতেন কোহিনুর আক্তার। প্রতিদিনের মতো সকালে তিনি পায়ে হেঁটে কারখানা যাচ্ছিলেন।
পথে আমবাগ ব্রিজের পাশে পৌঁছলে একটি ট্রাক তাকে চাপা দেয়। এতে ঘটনাস্থলেই কোহিনুর আক্তার মারা যান।
খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ মরদেহ উদ্ধার করেছে।
এদিকে এ ঘটনায় অন্য পোশাক শ্রমিকরা ওই ট্রাক ভাঙচুর করে এবং সড়ক অবরোধ করে রাখেন। পরে পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে গিয়ে পরিস্থিতি স্বাভাবিক করে।
দুর্ঘটনার পর ট্রাকটি আটক করা হলেও এর চালক পালিয়ে গেছে। এ ব্যাপারে আইনগত ব্যবস্থা প্রক্রিয়াধীন।
