কৃষি মানুষের খাদ্য ও পুষ্টি প্রদানের উপকরণ। দেশের অর্থনীতি বহুলাংশে কৃষির ওপর নির্ভরশীল। বিবিএস প্রতিবেদন-২০২০ অনুযায়ী দেশের শ্রমশক্তির ৪০.৬ শতাংশ কৃষির ওপর নির্ভরশীল। দেশের জিডিপিতে কৃষির অবদান ১৩.৩১ শতাংশ। কৃষির উন্নতি মানে দেশের উন্নতি। কৃষি আমাদের অর্থনীতির অন্যতম চালিকা শক্তি।
বর্তমানে কৃষিজমির পরিমাণ কমে যাচ্ছে, জনসংখ্যা বাড়ছে, সে জন্য কৃষির উন্নয়নে বিশেষ পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া জরুরি। কৃষির উন্নয়নে নতুন পদ্ধতি আবিষ্কার, গুণগত মানসম্পন্ন ফসলের বীজ উৎপাদন, সারের মূল্য হ্রাস, সুষম সার প্রয়োগ করার সুযোগ সৃষ্টির উদ্যোগ নেওয়া দরকার। বেসরকারি কোম্পানিদের বিশেষ সুযোগ দিয়ে বেসরকারি খাতে দেশে মানসম্পন্ন সবজি বীজ উৎপাদন করে বীজের জোগান বৃদ্ধির উদ্যোগ নেওয়া প্রয়োজন।
বেসরকারি অলাভজনক উন্নয়ন সংস্থার মাধ্যমে কৃষি যান্ত্রিকীকরণ আরও গতিশীল করা দরকার। এ ছাড়া এনজিওর মাধ্যমে অঞ্চলভিত্তিক সমন্বিত কৃষি উন্নয়ন প্রকল্প বাস্তবায়ন করে এলাকা উপযোগী ফসলের জাত উন্নয়ন, সম্ভাবনাময় কৃষি প্রযুক্তি সম্প্রসারণ, সেচ অবকাঠামো নির্মাণের দ্বারা সেচের আওতা বৃদ্ধি করতে হবে। পাশাপাশি মৎস্য গবেষণার মাধ্যমে দেশে মাছের নতুন জাত উদ্ভাবন, এসব জাতের পোনা ব্যবহার করে মাছের উৎপাদন বৃদ্ধি করা যাবে।
তা ছাড়া বেসরকারি উন্নয়ন সংস্থার মাধ্যমে গবাদিপশু এবং হাঁস-মুরগি পালনের নতুন পদ্ধতি আবিষ্কার করে দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধির জন্য জনগণকে প্রশিক্ষণের ব্যবস্থা করা দরকার। বিভিন্ন কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে উৎপাদিত কৃষি উন্নয়নের নতুন নতুন পদ্ধতি সারা দেশে ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার মাধ্যমে কৃষির উন্নয়ন করা সম্ভব। পতিত জমি কাজে লাগানো, এক জমিতে বছরে চার ফসল উৎপাদনের উদ্যোগ নিতে পারলে কৃষিবিপ্লব হবে।
ক্রমহ্রাসমান কৃষিজমি, জনসংখ্যা বৃদ্ধি , জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন, খরা, বন্যা, লবণাক্ততা, পোকামাকড়, পশু ও ফসলের রোগ ইত্যাদি গুরুত্ব দিয়ে কৃষির উন্নয়নের উদ্যোগ নিতে হবে। আশা করি আধুনিক কৃষি ব্যবস্থা প্রচলনের মাধ্যমে ক্ষুধা, দারিদ্র্যমুক্ত, সমৃদ্ধ ও উন্নত হবে বাংলাদেশ।
