রাজপরিবারের বিরুদ্ধে কথা বলায় কিছুদিন আগে এক কিশোরের ফাঁসি কার্যকর সৌদি আরব। এবার একই অপরাধে শীর্ষস্থানীয় সেনা কমান্ডার জেনারেল ফাহাদ বিন তুর্কি আব্দুল আজিজের বিরুদ্ধে মৃত্যুদণ্ডাদেশ জারি করা হয়েছে।
ইয়েমেনে চলমান আগ্রাসনে নেতৃত্বদানকারীদের মধ্যে জেনারেলদের অন্যতম ছিলেন ফাহাদ। মৃত্যুদণ্ডপ্রাপ্ত এই জেনারেলের স্বজনদের বরাতে দিয়ে পার্সিয়ান গালফ স্টাডিজ সেন্টার জানিয়েছে, সৌদি আরবের বাদশাহ সালমান, যুবরাজ মুহাম্মাদ বিন সালমান ও প্রতিরক্ষামন্ত্রীকে ক্ষমতাচ্যুত করার ষড়যন্ত্রের দায়ে মার্শাল কোর্টে তার বিচার করা হয়েছে। বিচারে তার বিরুদ্ধে মৃত্যুদণ্ডের আদেশ দেয়া হয়েছে।
এর আগে গত সেপ্টেম্বরে জেনারেল ফাহাদ বিন তুর্কি আব্দুল আজিজকে তার ছেলেসহ গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। তিনি ১৯৮৩ সালে সউদি সেনাবাহিনীতে যোগ দেন।
এরপর মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র ও ব্রিটেনে বিশেষ সামরিক প্রশিক্ষণ গ্রহণ করেন এবং বহিষ্কার ও গ্রেপ্তারের আগে গত বছর জেনারেল পদে উন্নীত হন।
এই জেনারেলের ছেলেদের বিরুদ্ধেও ব্যাপক দুর্নীতির অভিযোগ ছিল। রাজধানী রিয়াদের অন্তত ১০০টি আবাসন প্রকল্প পরিচালনা করছিল তারা। ব্যাপক দুর্নীতির কারণে ২০১৪ সালে তার ছেলেদের গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। দণ্ডপ্রাপ্ত এই কমান্ডার বর্তমান বাদশাহ সালমানের ভাই তুর্কি বিন আব্দুল আজিজের ছেলে। -মিডল ইস্ট মনিটর
