সমগ্র বিশ্ব মুসলিম-উম্মাহর কাছে আশুরার ঐতিহাসিক ঘটনাবলি অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। পৃথিবীর জন্মলগ্ন থেকেই আশুরা দিবসটি বিশেষ গুরুত্ব বহন করে আসছে।
কারবালা প্রান্তরে মহানবী (সা.)-এর দৌহিত্র হজরত হোসাইন (রা.)-এর মর্মান্তিক শাহাদতবরণ আশুরা দিবসকে আরও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ও তাৎপর্যমণ্ডিত করেছে। কারবালার ঘটনা ইসলামের ইতিহাসে এক মর্মান্তিক কালো অধ্যায়। ৬১ হিজরির এ মর্মান্তিক শাহাদতবরণ মুসলিম উম্মাহর হৃদয়কে আজও ভারাক্রান্ত করে।
মর্মান্তিক ঘটনা: এ মর্মান্তিক ঘটনার সূত্রপাত হল- হজরত মুয়াবিয়া (রা.) ২০ বছর খলিফা হিসাবে রাষ্ট্র পরিচালনার পর হিজরি ৬০ সালে ইন্তেকাল করেন। তার ইন্তেকালের পর ইয়াজিদ অবৈধভাবে রাষ্ট্রীয় ক্ষমতা দখল করে। ইয়াজিদ ছিল নিষ্ঠুর, মদ্যপ ও দুষ্ট প্রকৃতির লোক। এ কারণে তৎকালীন মুসলিম বিশ্বের অধিকাংশ মানুষ তাকে ভালোভাবে মেনে নিতে পারেনি।
পক্ষান্তরে মদিনা ও কুফার জনগণ ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.)-কে খলিফা হিসাবে দেখতে চেয়েছে। এরই মধ্যে এক সময় কুফার লক্ষাধিক মানুষ ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.)-কে পত্র প্রেরণ করেন। এ পত্রে তারা দাবি জানান, সুন্নাহ পুনর্জীবিত এবং ন্যায়বিচার প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে অবিলম্বে তার দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করা প্রয়োজন।
যদিও এ সময় হজরত হোসাইন (রা.) ইয়াজিদের অত্যাচারে অতিষ্ঠ হয়ে ইরাক থেকে চলে গিয়ে মক্কা-মদিনায় অবস্থান করছিলেন। মদিনায় অবস্থানরত সাহাবিরা এবং ইমাম হোসাইনের আপনজনরা এ সময় ইমামকে কুফায় যেতে বারণ করেন। কারণ তারা আশঙ্কা করছিলেন, ইয়াজিদের পক্ষ থেকে বাধা এলে ইরাকবাসী ইমাম হোসাইনের পক্ষ ত্যাগ করবে।
কুফাবাসীর ডাকে সাড়া দিয়ে হজরত হোসাইন (রা.) তার চাচাতো ভাই মুসলিম ইবনে আকিলকে ইরাকের সার্বিক অবস্থা পর্যবেক্ষণের জন্য পাঠান। আর বলে দেন, যদি সে পরিস্থিতি অনুকূল দেখে এবং ইরাকবাসীর অন্তর সুদৃঢ় ও সুসংহত মনে হয়, তাহলে যেন তার কাছে দূত প্রেরণ করে।
মুসলিম ইবনে আকিল কুফায় পৌঁছার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে ১৮ হাজার কুফাবাসী তার কাছে এসে ইমাম হোসাইনের পক্ষে বাইয়াত গ্রহণ করে এবং তারা শপথ করে বলে, অবশ্যই আমরা জানমাল দিয়ে ইমাম হোসাইনকে সাহায্য করব। তখন মুসলিম ইবনে আকিল ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.)-এর কাছে পত্র পাঠিয়ে জানান যে, কুফার পরিস্থিতি সন্তোষজনক, তিনি যেন আগমন করেন।
ইয়াজিদের বিরুদ্ধে কুফাবাসীর সাহায্যের প্রতিশ্রুতিতে আশ্বস্ত হয়ে হজরত হোসাইন (রা.) তার পরিবারের ১৯ জন সদস্যসহ প্রায় ২০০ অনুচর নিয়ে কুফার উদ্দেশে রওনা হন। জিলহজ মাসের ৮ তারিখে ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.) মক্কা থেকে কুফার উদ্দেশে রওনা দিয়েছিলেন।
এ খবরে ইয়াজিদ উত্তেজিত হয়ে কুফার গভর্নর নোমান ইবনে বশির (রা.)-কে পদচ্যুত করে ওবায়দুল্লাহ ইবনে জিয়াদকে কুফার দায়িত্ব প্রদান করে। ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.) যেন কোনোভাবেই কুফায় প্রবেশ করতে না পারে সে নির্দেশও দেয় পাপিষ্ঠ ইয়াজিদ।
ওবায়দুল্লাহ বিন জিয়াদ কুফায় পৌঁছে সেখানকার জনগণকে কঠোর হস্তে দমন করে এবং মুসলিম বিন আকিলকে হত্যা করে। এরপর ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.)-কে প্রতিরোধ করতে চার হাজার সৈন্যের একটি বাহিনী প্রেরণ করে।
পরিবার ও সঙ্গীদের নিয়ে ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.) ফোরাত নদীর তীরে কারবালার প্রান্তরে পৌঁছলে ইবনে জিয়াদের বাহিনী তাদের অবরোধ করে ফেলে এবং ফোরাত নদীতে যাতায়াতের পথ বন্ধ করে দেয়। হজরত হোসাইন (রা.)-এর শিবিরে পানির হাহাকার শুরু হয়ে যায়।
এ সময় হজরত হোসাইন (রা.) তাদের উদ্দেশে প্রদত্ত ভাষণে বলেন, ‘আমি তো যুদ্ধ করতে আসিনি, এমনকি ক্ষমতা দখল আমার উদ্দেশ্য নয়। তোমরা আমাকে ডেকেছ বলে আমি এসেছি। এখন তোমরা কুফাবাসীরাই তোমাদের বাইয়াত পরিত্যাগ করছ। তাহলে আমাদের যেতে দাও, আমরা মদিনায় ফিরে যাই অথবা সীমান্তে কাফেরদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করি। অন্যথায় ইয়াজিদের কাছে গিয়ে তার সঙ্গে বোঝাপড়া করি।
কিন্তু হজরত হোসাইন (রা.)-কে নিঃশর্ত আত্মসমর্পণ করতে আদেশ দেয় ইবনে জিয়াদ। ঘৃণাভরে এ আদেশ প্রত্যাখ্যান করেন ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.)।
মহররমের ১০ তারিখ সকাল থেকে ইবনে জিয়াদের নেতৃত্বে প্রায় ৪ হাজার ইয়াজিদ বাহিনী হোসাইন (রা.)-এর ওপর আক্রমণ চালাতে থাকে। ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.) সাথিদের নিয়ে বীরত্বের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করতে থাকেন। এ যুদ্ধে একমাত্র ছেলে হজরত জয়নুল আবেদিন (রহ.) ছাড়া পরিবারের শিশু, কিশোর ও নারীসহ সবাই একে একে শাহাদতবরণ করেন।
মৃত্যুর আগ মুহূর্ত পর্যন্ত ইমাম হোসাইন একাই লড়াই চালিয়ে যান। শেষ পর্যন্ত অত্যন্ত নির্মম ও নির্দয়ভাবে ইমাম হোসাইনকে শহিদ করা হয়। সীমার নামক এক পাপিষ্ঠ তার মস্তক দেহ থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন করে ফেলে।
শাহাদতের পর ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.)-এর ছিন্ন মস্তক বর্শা ফলকে বিদ্ধ করে এবং তার পরিবারের জীবিত সদস্যদের দামেস্কে ইয়াজিদের কাছে প্রেরণ করা হয়। ইমামের খণ্ডিত মস্তক দেখে ইয়াজিদ ভীত ও শঙ্কিত হয়ে পরে।
বলাবাহুল্য যে, কারবালার প্রান্তরে সে অশুভ দিনে পাপিষ্ঠরা যে নির্মমতা ও নির্দয়তার পরিচয় দিয়েছে, তা পাষণ্ড হৃদয়েও ব্যথার সৃষ্টি করে। শাহাদতের পর হজরত হোসাইন (রা.)-এর দেহ মোবারকে মোট ৩৩টি বর্শা ও ৩৪টি তরবারির আঘাত দেখা গিয়েছিল। শরীরে ছিল অসংখ্য তীরের জখমের চিহ্ন। এ অসম যুদ্ধে একমাত্র ছেলে হজরত জয়নুল আবেদিন (র.) ছাড়া ৭০ থেকে ৭২ জন শহিদ হন।
ইয়াজিদের এ জয়লাভ বেশি দিন টিকে থাকেনি। মাত্র চার বছরের মধ্যে ইয়াজিদের মৃত্যু হয়। এর কয়েকদিনের মধ্যে মৃত্যু হয় তার পুত্রের। কারবালার এ মর্মান্তিক হত্যায় জড়িত প্রতিটি ব্যক্তি কয়েক বছরের মধ্যেই মুখতার সাকাফির বাহিনীর হাতে নির্মমভাবে নিহত হয়। এরপর ইয়াজিদের বংশের কেউ শাসন ক্ষমতা লাভ করেনি।
ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.) আজও সত্য ও ন্যায়ের প্রতীক হিসাবে মুসলিম উম্মাহর হৃদয়রাজ্যে বেঁচে আছেন। ইসলামের জন্য তার আত্মত্যাগ যুগের পর যুগ মুসলিম উম্মাহ্ শ্রদ্ধা ও ভক্তির সঙ্গে স্মরণ করবে।
তাৎপর্য ও শিক্ষা: ঐতিহাসিক কারাবালার শাহাদতের মাধ্যমে ইমাম হোসাইন (রা.) প্রমাণ করে গেলেন সত্য-মিথ্যা, ন্যায় ও অন্যায়, হক ও বাতিল কখনো এক হতে পারে না। সত্যের বিষয়ে কোনো ছাড় নয়, প্রয়োজনে শহিদ হতে হবে।
এ শাহাদতের মাধ্যমে তিনি সব সত্য সন্ধানি মানুষকে শিখিয়ে গেলেন অসত্যের কাছে, জালিমের জুলুমের কাছে কখনো মাথা নত করবে না। প্রয়োজনে জীবন দিবে, তারপরও অন্যায়ের কাছে মাথা নত করবে না।
তাই তো উপমহাদেশের প্রখ্যাত রাজনীতিক ও স্বাধীনতার বীরসৈনিক মাওলানা মুহাম্মাদ আলী জাওহার বলেছেন: ‘কাতলে হুসাইন আসল মে মর্গে ইয়াজিদ হ্যায়, ইসলাম জিন্দা হোতা হ্যায় হার কারাবালা কি বা’দ।’ মূলত কারবালায় ইমাম হোসাইনের শাহাদতের মধ্যেই নিহিত ছিল ইয়াজিদের মৃত্যু, আর প্রতিটি কারবালার পরই ইসলামের নব উত্থান ঘটে।
আমাদের উচিত এ মাসে সংঘটিত অতীত ঘটনা ও ইতিহাস থেকে শিক্ষা নিয়ে আগামী দিনের কর্মপরিকল্পনা নির্ধারণ করে দৃঢ় পদে কাজ করে যাওয়া। কোনো হারানোর বেদনায় হা-হুতাশ ও আপসোস না করে সত্যের ওপর অবিচল থাকা। সবশেষে কবির ভাষায় বলতে চাই ‘ত্যাগ চাই মর্সিয়া ক্রন্দন চাহি না।’
