দুর্নীতিবাজরা যাতে শাস্তি পায়, সেই লক্ষ্যে প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যবস্থা নিতে দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশন-দুদকের প্রতি আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন রাষ্ট্রপতি মো. আবদুল হামিদ। দুদক চেয়ারম্যান মোহাম্মদ মঈনউদ্দীন আবদুল্লাহ এবং কমিশনার মো. জহুরুল হক রবিবার (১৯ সেপ্টেম্বর) সন্ধ্যায় বঙ্গভবনে রাষ্ট্রপতির সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করতে গেলে তিনি এ আহ্বান জানান।
দুদক সূত্র জানায়, সাক্ষাৎকালে দুদক চেয়ারম্যান কমিশনের সার্বিক কর্মকাণ্ড সম্পর্কে রাষ্ট্রপতিকে অবহিত করেন। এ সময় তিনি দুদক অফিসের অবকাঠামো ও জনবল সংকটের বিষয়টি তুলে ধরেন।
বাংলাদেশ উন্নয়ন ও অগ্রগতির পথে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে উল্লেখ করে রাষ্ট্রপতি মো. আবদুল হামিদ বলেন, ‘উন্নয়নের এ ধারা টেকসই করতে দুর্নীতি প্রতিরোধ খুবই প্রয়োজন।’ তিনি বলেন, ‘তরুণ প্রজন্ম যাতে দুর্নীতিবিরোধী মনোভাব নিয়ে বেড়ে উঠতে পারে, সে লক্ষ্যে শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান, সমাজ ও পরিবার থেকে উদ্যোগ নিতে হবে।’ রাষ্ট্রপতি আশা করেন, দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশন প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক দুর্নীতি প্রতিরোধের পাশাপাশি অপ্রাতিষ্ঠানিক দুর্নীতি প্রতিরোধেও কঠোর পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করবে।’
