কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রতিষ্ঠাকালীন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. গোলাম মাওলা মারা গেছেন। মঙ্গলবার দুপুর ২ টায় হৃদযন্ত্রের ক্রিয়া বন্ধ হয়ে ঢাকার গুলশানের এভার কেয়ার হাসপাতালে মৃত্যুবরণ করেন।
তাঁর মৃত্যুতে গভীর শোক ও দুঃখ প্রকাশ করেছে কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পরিবার।
কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রেজিস্ট্রার (অতিরিক্ত দায়িত্ব) অধ্যাপক ড. মো. আবু তাহের স্বাক্ষরিত এক শোকবার্তায় তাঁর মৃত্যুতে শোক ও দুঃখ প্রকাশ করা হয়। একইসাথে মরহুমের রূহের মাগফেরাত কামনা ও শোক সন্তপ্ত পরিবারের প্রতি আন্তরিক সমবেদনা জ্ঞাপন করা হয়।
শোক প্রকাশ করে কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বর্তমান উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক এমরান কবির চৌধুরী বলেন, এটা আমাদের জন্য খুবই দুঃখজনক ঘটনা। তিনি আমাদের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় শুরু করেছেন। তাঁর আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনা করছি। সবচেয়ে বড় কথা তিনি আমার প্রতিবেশী ছিলেন, তিনি ছিলেন তিন তলায় আমি দু’তলায়, একই ভবনে। কাজেই আমরা খুব ক্লোজ। এটা আমাদের জন্য অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি। তাঁর পরিবারকে আল্লাহ এই শোক সইবার সামর্থ্য দিক, আল্লাহ তায়ালার কাছে সেই দোয়া করি।
উল্লেখ্য, প্রফেসর ড. গোলাম মাওলা কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠার পর ২০০৬ সালের ২৬ জুলাই থেকে ২০০৮ সালের ৩০ জুলাই পর্যন্ত প্রথম উপাচার্যের দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।
