আগামীকাল সোমবার (২০ সেপ্টেম্বর) সারা দেশের ১৬১টি ইউনিয়ন পরিষদে নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। ইসির নির্বাচন পরিচালনা শাখার কর্মকর্তারা এ তথ্য জানিয়েছেন।
জানা যায়, ভোটের আগেই বাগেরহাট, খুলনা ও চট্টগ্রামের ৪৩টি ইউনিয়ন পরিষদে বিনা প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতায় নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন আওয়ামী লীগের ৪৩ জন চেয়ারম্যান প্রার্থী। এর মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বেশি বাগেরহাটে। জেলাটিতে ৬৬টি ইউপির মধ্যে ৩৮টিতেই আওয়ামী লীগের প্রার্থীদের কোনো প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী ছিলেন না। বাকি ২৮ ইউপিতে আওয়ামী লীগের প্রার্থীর প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী দলেরই বিদ্রোহী প্রার্থীরা। এ ছাড়া চট্টগ্রামের সন্দ্বীপে ৪টি এবং খুলনার ১টি ইউনিয়নে আওয়ামী লীগের প্রার্থীরা বিনা প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতায় নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন।
আগামীকাল সোমবার যেসব জেলায় ইউপি নির্বাচন হবে তার মধ্যে খুলনায় ৩৪টি, বাগেরহাটে ৬৬টি, সাতক্ষীরায় ২১টি, নোয়াখালীতে ১৩টি, চট্টগ্রামে ১২টি এবং কক্সবাজারের ১৪টি ইউনিয়ন রয়েছে।
উল্লেখ্য, দেশে প্রায় সাড়ে চার হাজার ইউপিতে কয়েক ধাপে ভোট হচ্ছে। গত ৩ মার্চ প্রথম ধাপের ৩৭১টি ইউপির ভোটের তফসিল ঘোষণা করেছিল নির্বাচন কমিশন। করোনার কারণে সেইা ভোট স্থগিত করা হয়। ২১ জুন ২০৪টি ইউপিতে ভোট অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। চলতি মাসের শেষের দিকে কমিশন সভায় বাকি ইউপি নির্বাচনসহ অন্যান্য স্থানীয় নির্বাচনের ঘোষণা আসতে পারে।
