ডেমরায় জনবহুল আবাসিক এলাকায় বর্জ্য স্থানান্তর কেন্দ্র (এসটিএস) নির্মাণের প্রতিবাদে মানববন্ধন করেছে এলাকাবাসী। রোববার ঢাকা দক্ষিণ সিটি কর্পোরেশনের ৬৮ নং ওয়ার্ডের পূর্ব হাজীনগর এলাকায় ওই নির্মানাধীন এসটিএস’র সামনে এ মানববন্ধন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
মানববন্ধনে এলাকাবাসী বলেন পূর্ব হাজীনগর একটি জনবহুল এলাকা। এখানে শত শত পরিবারের বসবাস। এখানে রয়েছে কয়েকটি স্কুল-মসজিদ-মাদরাসা ও এতিমখানা। ঢাকা দক্ষিণ সিটি করপোরেশন এ এলাকায় ইতিমধ্যে বর্জ্য স্থানান্তর কেন্দ্র নির্মাণ শুরু করে ময়লা-আবর্জনা ফেলা শুরু করেছে। এতে শিক্ষার্থী ও এলাকাবাসীরা একটি নির্মল পবিবেশ হারিয়ে দূর্গন্ধময় পরিবেশে বায়ু দূষনসহ বসবাস করছেন বলে সকলেই স্বাস্থ্য ঝুঁকিতে রয়েছেন। এছাড়া এসটিএস’র সামনেসহ এ এলাকায় প্রশস্থ ও বিকল্প রাস্তা না থাকায় এখানে সব সময় জানযট লেগে থাকবেই। তবে ৬৮ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডে করিম মিল সংলগ্নসহ অনেক পরিত্যক্ত সরকারি সম্পদ রয়েছে যেখানে এসটিএস নির্মাণ করা হলে কোন সমস্যাই থাকবেনা। তাই শিক্ষার্থী ও এলাকাবাসীর কল্যাণার্থে এ বর্জ্য স্থানান্তর কেন্দ্রটি অন্যত্রে সরিয়ে দেয়ার জন্য সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্র্তৃপক্ষের নিকট জোর দাবী জানাচ্ছি।
নূর ইসলাম হাওলাদার এর সভাপতিত্বে মানববন্ধে উপস্থিত ছিলেন মো: জাহাঙ্গীর আলম, সাবেক ইউপি সদস্য গোলাম সারওয়ার লিটন, বেলায়েত হোসেন, নজরুল ইসলাম সকাল, জয়নাল আবেদীন, তোফাজ্জল হোসেন, নুরে আলম জিকু, মজিবুর রহমান, হাবিবুর রহমান, মো: হাসানসহ শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানের শিক্ষার্থী ও এলাকাবাসী।
